Stu Jones Mission Trip to Panama

In July 2014, I had the privilege to travel to Panama with the medical mission team “Floating Doctors.” The group is based in Boco Del Toro and serves many local and some not-so-local communities including Solarte, Loma Espina, and Cerro Brujo to name a few. Also, the team takes care of a local “nursing home,” which is basically a state run facility for the homeless and mentally ill.

During my week in Panama, I treated many people with all types of problems including general dysentery, infections both viral and bacterial, pregnancy related issues and lots of Orthopaedic issues (since that was the main reason I was brought on this trip). This was my first experience with true jungle medicine and to say it forced me out of my comfort zone  is an understatement!

I truly enjoyed my time with Floating Doctors and look forward to working with them again in the future. I met some amazing people  in Panama, and as I look back over my experience I have come to the conclusion that maybe I should get out of my comfort zone more often as it truly made me realize how grateful I am for all that Jesus has done for me and my family.
